Personal Statement
Catherine Kanter
Integrative Arts Psychotherapist, HCPC, MBACP, BAAT
At different times in our lives, we may struggle with issues that we can’t seem to find our way out of alone. You may feel anxious, isolated or overwhelmed. Maybe you are finding it difficult to navigate uncertainty or pressures at work or at home. Recent global events and challenges may also have had an impact.
Therapy offers a unique opportunity to build a relationship where you can feel safe and understood and to explore your experiences and thoughts.
Many people don’t find it easy to express themselves, or their emotions, in words. Metaphor and the arts offer a creative way to explore issues, relationships and feelings; shining a new light on patterns of behaviour that might not be so readily accessed by traditional talking therapies.
As an integrative therapist, I use different therapy, psychological theories and art modalities to create an approach which suits your needs. Most importantly, I work in response to you, and what you bring to each session. I see my therapeutic role as one of a co-traveller. You are the driver, and I am in the passenger seat. I may notice/point out parts of the landscape that we are driving through, and I may ask you to slow down so that we can both look around in more detail and explore together.
