Personal Statement

Shahar Poyastro Mechrez
Creative Arts Therapist

I am a creative arts therapist specialising in bibliotherapy, and based in North Finchley. I hold a B.Ed in Early Childhood Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with a focus on working with neurodivergent children, especially those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

At my private clinic, I offer a range of Creative Arts Therapy interventions, with a strong emphasis on bibliotherapy. This unique therapeutic method involves using literature – such as novels, short stories, poems, storytelling, and writing interventions – as a tool to help individuals explore and reflect on their thoughts and emotions. By engaging with these texts, clients can gain deeper insights from their subconscious, facilitating a more effective and efficient therapeutic process. I find that creative arts therapy opens up new avenues for expression and understanding, making it a powerful approach to mental health and personal growth.

I work with individuals of all ages, from young children to adolescents and adults, addressing a wide spectrum of everyday challenges and complex issues.

My practice is inclusive and adaptable, offering both group and individual therapy sessions. Additionally, I provide dyadic treatment settings, which include parent counselling to support families in navigating their unique journeys. Whether through one-on-one sessions or group interactions, my goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment where clients can explore their inner worlds and accompany them through their meaningful progress.
